World Cancer Day - Was Yesterday

I forgot. Well maybe someone said something yesterday but I missed it. Yesterday was World Cancer Day. I blogged about it in 2014 and have since forgotten about it. (Maybe chemo brain?) Its supposed to be a day to debunk the myths surrounding cancer among other things.

But if us cancer people can't remember it, its not going to work. I almost feel like its another 'Hallmark' holiday. I don't think it has much significance to me. Especially when I can't remember it and have to go look it up every year.

I guess its just not working for me.

I took a little holiday

Its a holiday and I took a little holiday. We went up to a friend's cabin in the mountains where there is no wifi, no cell phone service. We were off line. Okay, we had a satellite dish for TV but I was happy to relax and read a book (you know those things with paper pages and cardboard covers?)

Anyway, I didn't blog. I didn't read my email, look at Facebook or anything. It was very nice. I also pretended I was a healthy person and helped my friends paint the trim on their house. Back to reality tomorrow, after about 10 hours of sleep.

Its a holiday

We all need a  holiday once in a while. A holiday is a day to enjoy. Its Christmas and for the religious, they may include services in their day. For the non religious, services will probably be omitted. But for all we should take a day to include friends and family and food. Some will head to the movie theaters. Some will head to a Chinese restaurant.

As an official US holiday, we should take the time to enjoy ourselves. The news just listed a bunch of restaurants which are open today. Anyone who has to work, should have been given it as an option and not a requirement to keep their job.

Shopping? Absolutely not. Its not a day to rush out and spend money on things we don't need. I grew up in Massachusetts where on Sundays as a child, nothing was open except the drug store and corner store for a few hours. You could not go shopping if you wanted to. So we didn't. We enjoyed ourselves with friends and family.

Today, take a moment to enjoy yourself with out spending a cent. And with out going to a mall. Take a few minutes hours to enjoy what you have. Relax, don't think about work, and enjoy.

And appreciate your health.

Happy Holidays

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Festivus, Happy Hanukkah and whatever your holiday to you. Some wishes are a few days early, some a few days late, and some on time but you get the point. Go celebrate, enjoy food, family, and friends.

We are having a low key celebration our selves. Well several celebrations over the next few days. Lots of entertainment means lots of fun but lots of tired me, who might get cranky and live on pain meds. But we even have some lightly falling snow outside the window to admire.

But I will have fun. I will pretend I am on a mini medical vacation. I don't have any doctor appointments for another ten days. I will attempt to pretend I am healthy and enjoy the season. But I will still blog, cynically as usually.

Happy Holidays!
