Surviving Life With Ailments

What is the best way to survive ailments? First of all, one step at a time. And take as many breaks as possible to have fun.

That is what I did today. I may have my feet up recovering but I had fun, with my husband.

Today we went to a museum and out for lunch looking at the ocean. My feet are really tired. My knees hurt. My hips are speaking up too.

But by spending a few hours out doing something outside our normal activities it was a nice break. I didn't have to think about any of my medical ailments (until my feet started to hurt) or upcoming medical misadventures - which includes knee arthroscopy in a couple of weeks.

It is easy to get in a rut of medical issue followed by medical issue followed by medical issue. It is impossible to keep going in the medical rut day after day. You cannot do it without leaving your sanity in the hospital hallway.

So take my advice and go do something special. Get out of  your rut and have fun.

Happy Holidays!

Today my husband and I (at my husband's suggestion) are spending the day at home together. We chose to spend the time without the rest of the family because:
  • We wanted to spend time together and enjoy the holiday in our new house.
  • We went out to dinner with my family last night and my brother and four children are showing up Tuesday night and we are having a big family dinner here for 12.
My husband is the smart one. Its a great idea. We even went for a walk. We are enjoying the prechaos calm (think calm before the storm).

What is a holiday supposed to be? A day where you enjoy those who are close to you and celebrate the seasons - and maybe have some good food as well. That is what we did today.

I'm Not Suffering From Anything

I am not suffering from anything. I am living with a bunch of medical ailments, among them insanity.

Suffering sucks. Living is good. Its all about attitude in life. I think if you let yourself only see the downside of life (the half empty), you will miss out on the positive (the half full). So live with what you have and stop letting yourself suffer.

And enjoy your ride with your insanity

Going to the Beach!

I am so excited. I haven't been to the beach in months. Not since sometime early last fall. this is very unusual for me. I like to go to the beach year round. I don't swim that much but I like to walk in the sand with my toes in the water. See what the tides have brought in and how the storms change the coastline.

My husband thinks I am weird crazy insane for insisting we go to the beach in the winter. But I have convinced him that he will like it because we go out for clams (and he gets a beer) afterwards.

I have wanted to go to the beach for weeks months but either our schedule didn't work or the weather was not cooperative. I draw the line at going to the beach in a blizzard, a snow storm yes, but not a blizzard. I do have my limits.

But today we are going to the beach. I can't walk on loose sand and the tides aren't the best - coming in, not going out. We enjoy fresh air and a breeze off the 40 degree ocean water which will make it a bit chilly. Then we will take the Sunday paper to the clam shack to read while we wait for our food.

It may not sound like much but there are so many things I cannot do any more because of my health and this is one thing I can do and really enjoy. Its the little pleasures in life that keep us going.
