We are adapting to the new house. I really like having a lot of my life on one floor and fewer reasons to go up and down stairs. My body likes that as well. On the other hand, it means I am closer to the kitchen and other noise sources (what did you think I meant - midnight snacking?). When my husband stays up later than me or gets up earlier - both frequent occurrences - there isn't a flight of stairs protecting me from kitchen clean up or breakfast making sounds.
On the other hand, the cats like having us closer to their food dishes. They can hear us in our bedroom from anywhere on the first floor which means they come and beg for food as soon as they think its breakfast time. Or if I get up in the middle of the night, it must mean time for a snack - because I am on the same floor as the kitchen.
Overall its a good place for all of us. We aren't quite ready to entertain yet but are getting closer. The unpacking fairy hasn't shown up in the middle of the night to help us when we weren't looking so we have a ways to go. But I can now find most of my clothes and am getting my craft room/office set up the way I want it. I have also reconnected with my kitchen stuff - I have made bread in my bread maker, found the cuinsinart parts, and the crockpot. Tonight I making pulled pork for dinner (with homemade barbecue sauce, cornbread, and braised cabbage on the side) - this make me happy.
If you see the unpacking fairy, please send her our way. Thanks.

Happy Holidays 2016!
Happy New Year to all and Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah! I hope you all are enjoying your holiday season!
On our end, the holidays are not very holidayish at all. But we are making do.
I got the flu just before Christmas. This meant we hibernated. And packed boxes in preparation for our move next week. I was pretty sick and running a fever over 100 for two days (even though I did get a flu shot) before starting to feel better.
For New Year's, we are having dinner at home just the two of us (which is what we like) and packing boxes. I am taking the car for an oil change and getting my nails done in celebration of the holiday. Aren't we exciting?
Our biggest problems are packing and moving. Its so much work. Every room is full of boxes and more stuff to pack. It is very difficult for me to get too much packing done. I successfully make my back hurt every day. This morning I packed three boxes and now my back hurts so I am taking a break.
The last time we moved, we had a lot more going on. My soon to be husband was mobilized and spending all his time at Fort Drum. We were planning a wedding. And we were house hunting. It was a little stressful. But the big difference was I was healthy.
Now I am not so healthy and packing is much more difficult. I am not allowed to lift things (but I admit to cheating a little bit - maybe that is why my back hurts?) which limits me quite a bit. Its not fun.
So we will have a small New Year's dinner and get plenty of rest so we can continue packing tomorrow.
Happy New Year!
PS We are never moving again. But that's what we said last time we moved.

What were we thinking?
We had a 'great' idea to move. Now that our house is almost ready to go on the market we are packing like mad. Everything is going into boxes to depersonalize the house. Which means we cannot find anything.
Including the big bin of all the knitting projects I did last winter, spring and, summer for craft shows this fall. All the stuff I got ready is now missing. Its lost. Totally.
We started unpacking the pod in the driveway. I even climbed up on top of all the boxes with a flashlight to see if I could the missing bin. My only hope is that we get a new house and move in so we unpack and I can find it. Otherwise, I have to start knitting like mad to make more stuff to sell.
I have been looking at pictures of houses for sale on line and look how empty they are. I have no idea how we are going to do that. I have friends who are coming over to help pack. Including one friend who has weeded and mulched all the gardens. I only got hurt once so far, when I fell over the bags of mulch yesterday. I have a booboo on my elbow from landing on the cement patio but do not feel any other damage (which is a good thing because I can't deal with any more issues right now).
But really, what were we thinking? Moving sucks.
